Live viewing is not a security camera: the AfterSchool trust standard

The thing parents ask about most is live viewing. The second thing they ask is "can someone else see my child?". We answer both the same way: live viewing is not a security camera, it is a service opened with the parent's consent, and it has six rules.

  1. Play room only. Sleep and bathroom areas are out of scope.
  2. Mutual consent. Explicit consent from every parent using the room; if a child without consent is present, the stream stays off for that session.
  3. Automatic cut-off. The stream starts at check-in and ends the instant the child is checked out.
  4. No recording, no audio. Nothing is stored, no sound is captured, screen recording is blocked; servers are in Türkiye.
  5. Voluntary staff. Supervision is voluntary and paid extra; staff are informed separately.
  6. The file is ready. Privacy notice, consent form and the school–Cedgo joint-controller agreement are completed before set-up.

These rules are not decoration for the regulator; they are the real control against where risk actually comes from. A school may also start without live viewing — check-in notifications and the daily summary work either way.
